RACING, SAILING & TRAINING AT RSAYS

  The RSAYS offers members and member’s guests a wide choice of sailing and racing format to choose from.  

Weekend Racing Summer Point Score Series. The Adelaide Etchells Fleet race two races each Saturday, from October to April in tight racing and friendly atmosphere off the water over a drink or two. Two Divisions of Keel boats race Saturdays over summer, and monthly on Sundays in winter. Keen competition between the Squadron and the neighbouring Club doubles the size of the fleet, to provide excellent racing locally. Offshore Racing Series and the Short Offshore Series, provide a great training ground and practice for those intending to do a Sydney to Hobart or Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race.  

Twilight Series No spinnakers, but plenty of competition in and out of the Port River on Wednesday nights during daylight saving months. A great introduction to racing and for skippers to entertain Corporate Sponsors, finishing with dinner and prize giving on the Squadron‘s quarterdeck to relive over the excitement on the water.  

Women’s Keelboat  Offering racing experience to women who want t to eventually own their own boat. A twilight style series is held annually.  

Women’s Coaching Held in April-May. An introductory course of 3 weeks for women beginning sailing or with a little experience, but can’t get ahead of the boys. The opportunity to extend from here, being part of the team to the Australian Women’s Keel Boat Championship in June.   

Adult Learn to Sail in Dinghies Courses are run on demand for adults wishing to learn dinghy sailing. Run by qualified instructors logbooks included and marked off. Four weekly sessions to get you sailing around a triangular short course in the shelter of the River.  

Navigation Courses Run by YA Yacht master on demand two to three times a year.  

Sea Safety Instruction Offshore racers are required to undertake a short theory and practical training course and update regularly to qualify to race in offshore events. Junior Training Courses are run in the Clubs fleet of Pacers and held in the Port River in good view of parents and siblings. Under the guidance of qualified Yachting Australia instructors. If you are 8 years old and upwards and can swim, you would be eligible. Two programs offering fortnightly sessions over the summer months on Sunday mornings, one before Christmas and one after allows for other outside family activities. Beginner, Intermediate plus beginner racing groups are catered for. Cruising Several cruises are offered on a regular basis every few months to varying destinations across or up and down the Gulf. Dinner evenings are very popular, with guest speakers invited to talk on their travels, sharing valuable and entertaining information to those new, as well as those with plenty of experience.
